Cape Verde travel guide - Maio highlights

This is the island to which tourists are least likely to go. It is one of the three flat islands and lacks the development of Sal and the generous supply of beautiful dunes and oases of Boavista. It has little gripping walking. But it is this quiet that attracts some people - there are some lovely white and lonely beaches. Surprisingly, there is at least one hotel serving excellent food. There is the biggest acacia plantation of the archipelago - and the trees are mature and green. For naturalists there are turtles in the summer and some interesting birds, particulary seabirds on the Ilhéu Laje Branca of the north of the island.
