Cape Verde travel guide - Boavista highlights

[MAP]

Beyond the idyllic beaches another story unfolds. The bleached land has a terrible beauty but it will leave you feeling parched and a little crazed by the sun. The only forests are petrified remnants on the shores: aeons ago, Boavista must have been a fertile place.

In many places the struggle for existence has become too much. Villages are abandoned, and sand drifts across the empty floors of their houses.

Go for walks on abandoned beaches, over drifting dunes and in desert oases; go for windsurfing that is claimed by some to be better than Sal; and for game-fishing. There is a padi dive station, thoug currents and wind mitigate aginst exploring many shipwrecks and impair the clarity of the water. Birds, turtles and shells abound. Don't expect any mountain walking. © by Bradt Travel Guide [5]
